Tomorrow is pleased to announce ‘Premier Life” its second student thesis exhibition with Toronto based artist Mike Goldby. Goldby’s work examines social network structures and how their image-making strategies are co-opted as vehicles for personal branding. Through staged photographs, videos and sculptural installations of consumer goods and furniture, Goldby considers the liminal space behind the lens and before the screen. He expands the experience involved in contemporary identity-construction and representation strategies that often go unspoken in today’s post-Internet conditions.
‘That singular moment of synthesis- the artificial shutter release, where trend, product and lifestyle are conflated into singular representations- seems to go on and repeat forever; narratives expand, overlap, collapse and switch places.’ - Mike Goldby
Mike Goldby (b. 1991) lives and works in Toronto. He is currently completing his BFA in Integrated Media at OCAD University. He has shown locally and internationally, including XPACE Cultural Center and The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in (Toronto), The Glue Factory (Glasgow), and at NRMAL Festival (Monterrey).
